The LLQP system was overhauled in 2016 and now consists of four licensing exams that contain 35 questions each and are written on a scantron sheet. These exam modules are administered on a regular basis in major centres across Canada, with the exception of Quebec. If you wish to do business in Quebec, you must take a separate version of the Ethics and Professional Practice exam that reflects civil law rather than common law.
To begin your LLQP process, you must first create a profile with the Canadian Institute for Securities Regulation (CISRO) and provide this to your course provider along with your student number. Once you have done this, your course provider will be able to assign you a CIPR number that you can use to book provincial exam sessions. This number will be used by your provincial regulator to verify that you have passed your exam and are eligible to apply for a license.
